There isn't much in California that hasn't been "found," but these places will let you get away from the throng and explore unknown treasures on the backroads.

Hearst Castle

The house is a wonderful creation, with distinctive ideas and furnishings and exquisitely designed interior and outdoor spaces.

Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes and the area is appreciated all throughout the year, although the winter season is its busiest.

Bodie State Historic Park

This abandoned hamlet, which is 20 miles southeast of Bridgeport, formerly housed 10,000 gold miners, many of whom were dishonest and unscrupulous.

Lassen Volcanic National Park

The surroundings here offer a variety of unusual sights, including the snow-capped mountain, hot springs, mud pots, lakes, and woodland.

Point Arena Lighthouse

For the adventurous traveller, it's a great place to get some exercise while ascending to the summit to enjoy the vast views.

Mission San Juan Capistrano

According to a charming legend, the swallows who build their nests in the masonry migrate south every year on October 23rd  and return on St. Joseph's Day, March 19th.

Christ Cathedral

Crystal Cathedral was constructed for televangelist Robert Schuller and his Hour of Power television programme, which was later handled by Bobby Schuller.

Mount Shasta

A volcanic mountain called Mount Shasta is visible in the background, towering above the surroundings. There are trails up the mountain for hiking and other outdoor activities.
